Roles, Responsibilities, and Course Summary
Roles, Responsibilities, and Course Summary
Health and safety responsibilities are shared, and effective safety management depends on cooperation between individuals and organisations. Everyone has a role to play in creating and maintaining safe environments.
Individuals are responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. This includes following safety rules, using equipment properly, and behaving responsibly. Individuals should also report hazards, accidents, and near misses so that risks can be addressed promptly.
Organisations have a duty to provide safe environments and systems of work. This includes identifying hazards, assessing risks, providing training, and supplying appropriate equipment. Organisations must also review their safety arrangements regularly to ensure they remain effective and up to date.
A positive safety culture exists when health and safety is valued and prioritised at all levels. In such environments, people feel comfortable raising concerns, and safety is seen as part of everyday behaviour rather than an inconvenience. Leadership commitment, clear communication, and ongoing training all contribute to a strong safety culture.
