Implementation of Policies: Supervisors must ensure that employees understand and follow health and safety policies and procedures. This includes safe systems of work, emergency procedures, and use of equipment.
Risk Assessment: Supervisors must carry out or assist in workplace risk assessments. Identifying hazards and evaluating risks helps prevent accidents and informs control measures.
Communication: Supervisors must communicate hazards, safety requirements, and changes in procedures to employees effectively. Clear communication ensures everyone understands their responsibilities and can work safely.
Training and Instruction: Supervisors must ensure staff are adequately trained for their tasks. This includes induction, refresher training, and specific training related to hazardous activities or equipment.
Monitoring and Enforcement: Supervisors monitor employee behaviour, adherence to procedures, and the effectiveness of safety measures. They take corrective action when unsafe practices are observed.
