audit Stage
The second stage is the Stage 2 audit, which involves a detailed evaluation of how the facility management system is implemented in practice. During this stage, auditors visit the organization’s facilities, interview personnel, observe operations, and review records to verify that processes are functioning as described in the documentation. The auditors collect objective evidence to determine whether the system conforms to the standard and whether it is effectively implemented.
If the organization successfully passes the Stage 2 audit, the certification body may issue an ISO 41001 certification. However, certification is not a one-time event. Organizations must undergo surveillance audits at regular intervals, usually annually, to ensure that the management system continues to comply with the standard. These surveillance audits verify that the organization maintains and improves its facility management system over time.
Another type of audit that may occur within certification programs is the recertification audit, which takes place at the end of the certification cycle, typically every three years. Recertification audits are more comprehensive than surveillance audits and involve a full evaluation of the management system to determine whether certification should be renewed.
